Day 6: July 14
We brought the rain to Texas! We've had 2 batches of rain, thunder and lightning today. I love this kind of rain. The kids were outside playing when it started raining. They did hang out for a second but then came in and were drenched.
It didn't take long for the rains to stop and then the sun came out and there were new things to play with...MUD! The kids were hauling the wet mud to their sandbox and making jumps for monster trucks and birthday cakes. Of course it was the wet clay which stains everything. This picture was midway through their play. By the time they were done they were completely covered in mud. Mandatory hose baths before being allowed into the house.
The mud distraction did allow us enough time to get some of our fencing project done. The geese and goats are running loose and we are working on getting everyone to stay in their pens. All of the fencing is electric (I love electric fencing for many reasons). The animals have no respect for it at this time because it isn't plugged in but as soon as it is lessons will be learned and all with fear the fence. I am hoping we get it done before I leave so I can get some good videos to share. (I know some may be thinking this is awful but if you had an animal destroy all your hard work on a "normal" fence and refuse to stay where you put them you would understand) It's for their own good and their owners sanity.
We did get sidetrack at one point from fencing. The mama goose had been laying on her eggs much longer than she should have and still had three unhatched. One hatched but she couldn't protect it from the others and still lay on the rest of them so she abandoned it. My niece found it and has been raising it. Unfortunately, the other three eggs were not hatching. They normally hatch one every day. So, we had to take her eggs from her. We did open them up to see what was going on. I won't gross anyone out by going into detail here but they were no longer alive.
Last photo of today. Nigel hiding in the fireplace outside during the storm. He's so brave.
